The "De-Tax" Program Scam
These scams have a variety of twists an turns. some are based upon the phoney "common-law" trust scam. Others have you set-up offshore trust, offshore credit cards, etc. The all sell packages which are simply poorly drafted forms.
These guys are picking people's pockets right and
left. They ask for $5,000+ from these pigeons and then walk away when
the pigeon gets nailed or claim that it is some dark conspiracy and
claim that this bolsters their credibility. These guys are slick
hucksters. Instead of snake oil they sell dreams of no taxes.
Irwin Schiff is an author promising that individuals will "pay no taes."
Schiff's history is questionable at best. He was convicted in 1980 on two
counts of tax evasion and served five months in prison. He was later
convicted in 1985 on three counts of personal income tax evasion and one
count of failure to file a corporate tax return. He served three years
in prison with three years probation. He now has a nationally
broadcast, weekly radio show in which he promotes his de-tax program,
and has a huge billboard in Las Vegas in front of his store which says,
"WHY PAY INCOME TAXES WHEN NO LAW SAYS YOU HAVE TO?"
